This medium bodied wine is the parent grape of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc has proven to be quite vigorous and produce award-winning wines across the globe due to its diversity of tastes, which is mainly dependent on the climate. Although the grape originates from France, in South Africa it predominantly features in Stellenbosch, Paarl and the Swartland. With its mesmerizing bright red colour, elements of herbaceous, chalky, and dusty road are evident on the nose. The Saartjie Cabernet Franc is furthermore characterized with hints of cherries and peppercorn on the palate.
Due to its firm structure, soft tannins and long finish, this wine presents endless opportunities for any meat lover. With a higher acidity, it makes it pleasurable to pair this wine with any tomato-based dishes, vinegar-based sauces, or rich legumes like delicious black beluga lentils. The savoury and fruity aromas make Cabernet Franc an excellent food wine to pair with roasted pork, beef stew, meatballs in tomato sauce, turkey with cranberry, lamb gyros, roasted duck, venison, or lamb.
When putting out a cheese board, consider goat cheese, brie, feta, and blue cheese.
